FILM AND TV PRODUCER RASHAAD KING LAUNCHES MONTH-LONG FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN FOR FILM ON DIABETES

LOS ANGELES, California – October 1, 2016 – In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month,
independent film and television producer Rashaad King is launching a month-long GoFundMe
campaign to raise funds for the Los Angeles film screening of his new movie, Fear Thyself. The
film follows Gina, a Type 1 Diabetic who is having trouble managing her condition after reading
about death and diabetes. She’s haunted in her dreams by something a little too close to
comfort; later realizing she won’t ever be able to escape herself.

The film is produced by Mark Anthony and Christina Gaspard, producers for Konglo Films and is
written and directed by Nicole Renee also known as ItsFearHerself, a moniker used to brand her
company solely for horror projects. The subject matter of the film is a delicate one and King
plans on using the motion picture as a way to bring about a heightened awareness to the plight
of diabetes.

“Our brilliant writer/director Nicole is a Type 1 Diabetic and was incredibly brave to share her
story with us. The goal is to show how real the fear is of death from diabetes than the disease
itself and to spark conversation. We hope to establish a safe space for accountability for those
who’ve committed to finding a cure, King stated earlier. There are more than 29 million people
on the planet living with diabetes and that number continues to rise.

The fundraising campaign is part of a six week marketing plan to raise awareness and create
community via social media. The Official Fear Thyself Social Media Handles are below. The film
will screen Friday, November 11, 2016 in Los Angeles. For more information and to donate,

Happy Anniversary, Rashaad!

Guess what yawl? Today is my one year anniversary! YAY! It’s officially been an entire year that I’ve lived in Los Angeles and I’m so grateful. I’ve shared three things Los Angeles has taught me. Check out the video to find out what they are (physics, freedom and permission) and how to live in flow! YAY!

Thank you all for your love and support. It means the world to me. 4Real. XO

Totally Random Tuesday: Is it wrong to still listen to R. Kelly?

Hey folks,

Today is the first edition of my new series on Rashaad4Real.com, Totally Random Tuesday. Every Tuesday I’ll pick the most random things on my mind and share them with you and hope you provide some sort of feedback for it. For this inaugural post, I have one question…

After hearing about 49 year old R. Kelly allegedly dating Halle Calhoun, a 19 year old model, is it wrong to still support and listen to the King of RnB’s music? LBVS (Laughing but VERY serious)

hallecalhoun

This totally random moment came from a totally random playlist mix generated by YouTube. I signed in earlier today and hit play all and after about 30 minutes of listening to “Grown Folks Music” all I hear is

“My mind’s telling me no but my body, my body’s telling me yes! Baby, I don’t wanna hurt nobody but there’s something that I must confess…”

Now of course we all know “Bump and Grind” and that intro definitely sounds like Kells used to lead the choir at church. So, as I attempted the run that he does so well at the end of the phrase, something ran across my mind… The fact that there are 30 years, literally 3 decades, between him and his alleged new boo is nothing short of…..wild.

I will preface the following by saying who he chooses to be with in his private life has absolutely nothing to do with me so with that being said, is age really nothin’ but a number? (And considering 90 year old Hugh Hefner, should this really even be in question?)

It kinda puts me in a difficult position, sorta, as I’m sure it does most of his fans and supporters. I’ve shouted from the mountaintop year after year that there is only one undisputed KING of RnB and it’s R. Kelly. With a career spanning 25 years as a singer, writer, producer, director, engineer and more, R. Kelly has won over 200 awards and 500 nominations including 25 Grammys, 35 Billboards and 29 Soul Train — not to mention winning every BMI Award he’s ever been nominated for — 19 to be exact, but who’s counting?

So there’s no question about His Excellency in the Business but what about when it comes down to that other stuff that really doesn’t matter but kinda does? A few things:

  • He settled out of court for $250,000 after allegedly having sex with a 15 year old when he was 24,
  • He allegedly married Aaliyah (MY girl) when she was 15 (they both denied it then she came forward admitting it years later in 1997),
  • The cops searched his home and found pictures of an alleged underage girl wrapped in a towel in a duffel bag,
  • He allegedly picked up a girl from the prom, allegedly impregnated her and allegedly paid for the abortion of the baby
  • And perhaps the most memorable allegation, that time the video surfaced of a man peeing in an underage girl’s mouth who was reported to allegedly be “The Pied Piper”, Robert Kelly. (SIDENOTE: For those who don’t know who the Pied Piper is, it’s a fable about a piper who used a flute and lured rats away that infested a town in Germany but after the mayor of the town and the adults failed to pay him for it, he took revenge and lured the children of the town away and they were never to be seen again. R. Kelly said that he started calling himself The Pied Piper after he starting playing the flute and incorporating that sound into his music. He also stated he had no real knowledge of the story of The Pied Piper)

So, this just brings me back to my Totally Random Tuesday question, am I wrong to continue listen to, sing along and jam to the genius of R. Kelly in 2016? Please sound off. I need answers, people. Seriously. I love this man’s music so it’s not so bad, right? These are just “allegations”. After all, he donated cases of water to the people of Flint during the water crisis (which is far from over, the attention has just been shifted to the circus of presidential nominations). However, I just can’t listen to Bump and Grind without thoughts going back to high school days and hearing the kids sing “I don’t see nothing wrong with doing girls under 9”.

Am I trippin’? Or is Mr. Kelly trying to tell us something? And to the innumerable (not really — I just don’t have time to count them all) amount of females who’ve come forward with testimonies against R, Godspeed. If it’s true, my heart is with all of you. 4Real.

Your New Beginning Awaits [Flight Details Inside]

Yesterday marked my 11 month anniversary living in Los Angeles. That’s 11 months, 334 days, 8,030 hours of my life. From experiencing homelessness to celebrating my 27th birthday (July 6th #TeamCancer) to connecting with some really amazing souls, I have been in some extreme situations since August 31, 2015. You can revisit a couple of those here and here.

Before I moved to LA, I started to experience God in a different way. Truth be told, it all started after my mother died back in April 2015. I was starting to experience numbers in different sequences and once I knew God was speaking to me directly through numbers, it changed the game for me.

One number in particular led me to say I Do (or — I Will) when it came down to moving to LA. It was

1111.

I would see the sequence 11, 1:11 and 11:11 EVERYWHERE. I would see it on my phone. 11:11 AM. 11:11 PM. My bill at the grocery store would be $11.11. I would see a billboard with the number 11 and so on and so forth. It was so strong that a friend of mine moved to a “big ole house” and the address, to our surprise, was 1111! It started happening so much that my friends AND family would see it. EVERYDAY. As soon as we saw it, we would text each other or call and just laugh it up. We knew it meant something but didn’t know what. As always, the researcher in me came out and I found it.

11 = New Beginnings.

Not only does it mean new beginnings but when you see it back to back, it also means that everything that you think about is manifesting rapidly. It is suggested that when you see it, whatever thoughts you are having are aligned with your intentions and your higher self. That is why it’s important to keep your thoughts positive and focus on what you desire in life and not on what you don’t have.

What’s interesting is that as I continued to see 1111, my thoughts about LA intensified. They grew stronger and stronger. Things started happening more and more leading me to that mark. When I finally made the decision to book my one-way plane ticket, which, for the record, was only $80, I knew it was God pushing me into my new beginning. My grandmother had just died a week after her 80th birthday, my mom died a week before her 43rd birthday, I had gotten fired from T-Mobile a week after my mom died (allegedly for time fraud — imagine that) and I felt that I had a serious case of Murphy’s Law — anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. There was a ton of pressure and I knew I had to do something in order to keep my sanity. I didn’t realize that God HIMSELF was planning a new beginning for me at the same time I was deciding that I, in fact, needed a new beginning.

I knew that taking this leap would call for uncertain situations. I knew that jumping into this new space, knowing literally five people (two of whom I hadn’t met before and a cousin who literally stopped all communication with me) would be quite a challenge. I also knew that I was treading new waters and that I was creating heart, mind and soul expansions for my family and friends. I believed that if they saw me do it, they would realize that they could too. I remember having a conversation with my dear friend Jasmine before I left and she said, “you’re the first one, King. You’re the first to do it.” Indeed I was the first one but I knew I wouldn’t be the only one.

She called me about a month or so ago and said she was on the way and that she’d be in LA by December. After we talked, she called me about a week or so later and said no, it would be August. I immediately thought it was because of her serious (and I do mean serious) infatuation with August Alsina (Lord, help). But I knew it was just her trusting the timing and actually saying yes. Like me, she started having experiences that led her to this point. Coincidentally, she’ll be here a few days before my one year anniversary. No, this wasn’t planned. Well, not by humans anyway. No, this isn’t a coincidence. Or is it?

I wrote all of this to let you know that YOUR NEXT IS NOW. There is something incredible going to happen in the month of August and you definitely need to be prepared for it. If it’s something that you have been wanting to do, do it. If there’s something you’ve been wanting to say, say it. If it’s something you have been wanting to get, get it. Don’t allow you to hold you back. Let your answer be yes. Let your gut lead you. Follow the stars. Flow in God. Take flight.

Your wings have been developed. Now it’s time to fly.

I haven’t published a post here in three months as I have been doing a lot of flying and a ton of work. I have been off the grid as I’ve been focused on advancing my life and career in Los Angeles and I have been doing a ton of soul searching and truth seeking. Reflecting on all that has happened over the course of the summer, it’s obvious why one would need to go underground to gather thoughts and slowly reemerge.

Since my break from social media, I’ve written A Black Man’s Blues, Volume 2: The Identity, the follow-up to 2013’s A Black Man’s Blues, Volume 1: The Introduction. Presales for A Black Man’s Blues, Volume 2: The Identity will begin this month. A Black Man’s Blues Volume 1: The Introduction is a collection of artistic and creative literary works penned by yours truly. The project explores the hidden truth about the pain that the majority of African American men deal with through artistic expressions via poetry, short stories, monologues, and other creative works in the hopes that Black men would become whole and embrace their essence. The official release date will be announced soon. During the entire month of August, Volume 1 will be available for only $0.99. To purchase, please click this link.

So, in review, as you embark upon this next month and next phase in your life, it is my hope that you open your heart and keep your mind focused on elevation. Keep your thoughts in high places and don’t allow anything to bring them down. Embrace the moment and rock steady.

I love you. Aim high. Stay fly. Your new beginning awaits.
